Making Binding Posts (HOW TO?)

I've used nuts, bolts and washers for terminals many times, but I don't use a particular size. I basically grab a bolt that's long enough to get the job done and then pick up whatever washers and nuts that fit it.

I'd like to try copper clad bolts next time, but I don't have anywhere local to buy them. They seem to be quite expensive too.

Here is what I did for mine...seems to be working fine.

Buy 2 posts that are not painted...duh

Then you need 2 washers / locking washers / nuts to mount the post to the box.

After you get the post mounted, then I bought

2 washers / locking washers / nuts to mount the speaker terminals too.

2 tips I can share when I did mine was

1. Make the hole in the wood smaller then the post. This way you have to "thread" the post into it and it makes a better seal

2. When you grind down the post...if you do...make sure you have the nuts already on the post.

This way you can grind...and then unscrew the nut to "re thread" the spot were you grind off.

I made the mistake of trying to put the nut on after I grinded the excess off....was really hard to get it on.

When I just unscrewed the nut over the freshly ground of section, it made it alot easier.

could be a better way...but this worked for me

Oh yea..I should point out..

You need a washer/locking washer/nut on each side of both posts..... so 4 total of each to lock it down.

Then you need 4 more for the actual speakers on the outside and inside of the box.
