Making a new sig...have a possibly dumb question!

I see many folks on here that have collaged sigs or multiple-image sigs. as in a base image, then images laid over the base image that are semi-transparent. What program is being used to accomplish this? I like the look, and would like to create my own. I have tried using photoshop, and i may just be an idiot, but couldn't figure out how to do what i am trying to do.

Any help is appreciated!

open the LAYERS tab in photoshop. hit F7, or windows->layers.

then hit layer->new->layer

or paste something. you will see it pop up on a new layer. use the eraser tool or the lasso tool, or be creative to erase parts of the image you do not want. put all the pieces on different layers, use the tools to move them and modify them. then file->save as->namefile.jpeg (use the dropdown menu to select JPEG as the ouput file type) and you are all set.

photoshop is teh easy. picture each layer as like a transparancy paper on those projectors in highschool. you can draw on each one and move them around. its cool beans.

oh well. I couldn't figure it out. every time i tried to paste something all i would get is the outline (marching ants) and not the actual image. Guess i will just stick with the plain text sig. As I explained earlier, i tried photoshop, and i am stupid when it comes to that program. couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

I have enough issues taking the damn pictures and posting the damn pictures...no way I can 'shop them. I don't even have photoshop. Does it work for Windows98?

Yes, I know about the layer masks, and i am trying to learn about them as best i can. Don't have a lot of time to spend doing it, though. And, I am sorry to say, I am a victim of the ease of MS Paint, so it is hard to learn something as in-depth as PhotoShop CS2.
