Making a 2DIN kit from a 1DIN din. Fiberglassers?

Since nobody makes a cheap 2DIN kit for my car, I'm gonna make one out of this 1DIN for my Mazda3 to house my new Alpine IVA-W200:

Of course, it's gonna need some cutting and fiberglassing to complete.. Is there anything I need to know about fiberglassing over plastic? Has anyone here done anything like this?

It's not gonna need all that much customizing to make it fit.. I need to cut out the pocket on the bottom and fill in the gap.. The cutting I can handle, I just don't know how well the plastic and resin are gonna mix.. Any pointers would be appreciated from anyone with experience doing something like this..

Too expensive.. The only place to get it is thru japanparts.com, and it's just more than I want to spend.. Metra is developing one now, which should be ready in a couple of months.. I can make due with this for a few until then.. Really all I want to know is how resin reacts with plastic.. I've never glassed over plastic before..

Anyone else with advice?

I have never done it but I was reading somewhere else where you wouldnt actually use resin for this it is some sort of abs plastic made by 3m I believe

Go about 3/4 the way down, to where you see pics of the DD, and follow that page, and the nezt 3 or 4 pages, and it's pretty muich step by step. He will start showing other things in between, but its all finished in about 4 pages.

Steve Meade uses that polyurethane stuff... he used it on his honda build which is what im guessing is in that post

Ya, it looks like polyurethane is the way to go.. Now I'm glad I asked before I went and bought resin instead.. This is only a temporary solution anyways.. you might want to look at it when you get that kit. the metra kit i got for my double din for my new jetta tells me to just cut out that middle piece and that makes it the double din
