so 2 of my friends are over at my apt with 4 of thier friends visiting from FSU

we later discover one of the FSU friends battery had died in his car. dmm ftw to confirm this, but they didnt believe me that the reading of 8.7volts iirc was a bad thing. in fact one kid was like yo just jump it a bunch of times until the battery has enough power saved in in so you can start his car. i said no, battery is dead, or else his car would start right now....

anyways i call all the people in the apt complex i know and people around the area looking for jumper cables, but most were out of town for the UCF : UF game or just didnt have a pair ... (i left my pair back in tampa a while back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

so i'm like **** it, ill take 2 pieces of extra 4awg i have laying aroud, and a few vice clamps and jump it that way......well out of the 6 people there 5 of them are like no way man it wont work

one of the FSU kid said, and i quote, "isnt there alot of mathmatical equations and shit you have to do for this shit because of the all that power going through the wire "

i said yes,and this will work, and proceeded to laugh in a "muhuwahahah" type fashion...

well everyone keeps doubting me and laughing at me, until loan and behold, first try, car starts up and the jump worked......these FSU kids flipped a shit thinking i'm a ****ing genious. One sad "yo that was majic yo", i said "nah beyatch, it's science"

then we drove the car to walmart to get him a new bat (since it was like 2am) and it tookm e a total of about 7 mint o change that batt. in an out, again they cheered.....

****ing silly kids.....

learned that just before turning 16 when i took my car to the gas station trying to be kool and batt died on me. some mexican was like "here hold this speaker wire here for a second" and viola car started

ya....that made for a good laugh the rest of the night for me......

ya most standard jumpers are thiner than 4awg iirc so i figure thatd work fine. shit 8awg might have done the trick too.....had the vice grips on 2 of the posts, one post with it kind of smushed in there and making contact, and i help the other one by the insulation against the post, they kids thought i was gonan get electricuated and have to go to the ER.....hahhaha even if i held it by the copper at most it's be a small intense zap...not like 120volts AC or anything

Current is what does damage, not so much voltage...if you get caught between a fully discharging car battery, that's several hundred amps at 12VDC through you - deadly even at low voltage.

It's preferable to work with one hand on live circuits, if that's possible - that way, you only get electrocuted through your hand instead of having it go from one hand to the other, through your heart.

Volts jolt, current kills.

Remember that phrase from the mythbusters episode where they dropped household electronics into a filled bathtub to see if enough current was generated to kill a human.

i bought some 0 guage jumper cables for 100 bux at a truck stop one time

very flexible, it was 40 feet long so it was 80 feet of wire i two sections, i never used it but wish i had've
