Ok... local dealer recently ditched memphis (ok not ditched but it isnt there main brand no more) and started heavily carrying Macrom. Problem is I can't find anything about them!! they look cool... but really what does looks matter?

Also I have been looking at getting some Diamond Audio Hexx s600 6" components and running ~150wrms into them.

I havent personally heard either (although I can go demo Macrom at the dealer whenever I want) but what I have read of Diamond Audio Hexx series has been good.

Any other good components to recommend that arnt crazy expensive? (by crazy I mean over $1000 a pair...) or should I go with DA?

i thought macrom is old school, haven't heard about their recent stuff, but my audio knowledge is limited. How'd u like the macrom when u auditioned them? If you like them then get that instead of looking into other brand already

They sounded good but I didnt do much of a comparison. And I dont have diamond audio dealer to go to compare...

I like to research products before I buy them and the fact I cant find anything about Macrom is concerning me...

i guess you can look into Hertz and Rainbows, they're the boners around here. But if you can't find a place to audition them then there's really no point.
I have a Hertz dealer here. I can compare those to the Macrom. Rainbow... never heard of them. I can check some of the other shops around here to see if they have any... doubt it. MB, JL, and Alpine are what you mainly find around here.

go audition some Hertz then, they get nothing but great reviews from anyone who have ever used them
I will... diamond audio seems easier to come by so unless I can haggle the dealer down on the Hertz then that could be the deciding factor... we will see.

Now active or passive should I run them? at first I thought the idea silly to go active but... I see now that my CDA-9887 HU might actually be ideal to go active... thoughts?

DA comps are not very well thought of around here. The company went through some changes a few years back and from what I have read the quality is just not what it used to be.

I think that most of the more experienced members will tell you that active is the better way to go -- if you can pull it off. Do you have a 4 channel amp?

Active isn't for everyone.

I spend about 3 hours a week just tuning. If OP doesn't have that much time, active is not a good suggestion.

DA is definately not what they once were when they actually gave a shit. Pre '04 the HEX series used a Eton/LPG combo and well ... it worked great in fact. Now off the shelf off shore crap and still at the same price point.

Its whats to be expected when hair care products finance a mobile audio product I suppose...

True. Hex's are pretty average these day's and really need alot of power as well..

I didnt like mine because the mids lacked bass and the tweets lacked detail

Have never heard of Macrom at all-

I have a PG 5.0:4 75wrmsx4 amp that I have been running bridged to my M-Class 6x9's. But I am thinking of putting that in my GF's truck and getting her some descent 5x7's and getting a Alpine PDX-4.150 (and 2.150 if I go active).

I think I will just leave it passive, I have never heard an active setup but I have heard good passive components (Alpine Type-X, some good CDT stuff, MB ect) and I liked them. I just wish I could still get the PG Xenon 200x4 amp... to get 200wrms I would need a seperate 2 channel or bridge a 4...

wait I could get a PDX-4.100 bridge it 2 channle for the front and get a PDX-2.150 for the rears... hmm so many options... lol

And then get 2 PDX-1.1000 and run 2 12's off them and ill have 4 of those amps and that would look pretty sweet stacked on the hump of my marquis trunk...lol

K from what you guys say then I will not buy DA without auditioning them first. Which means driving for 8 hours but meh... lol

For Hertz which series should I be looking at (to not get to crazy with the $$$) the Mille looks like it would be stupid expensive so should I be looking at Hi-Energy or Energy?
