Mach5 MLI-65's

Drag is right, The MLI's break up and get quite stringent above 3k at high volume. If you have a tweeter planned that can take it below 3k, then you should be Ok.

How many people actually need a 6.5 mid to play that high?
it depends on what kind of sound you're going for, having a tweet play that high certainly does change the sound as opposed to a tweeter playing that low. It mostly depends on install.

But you're right, it's usually not needed to have a mid go that high. I prefer my tweeter to go low too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

My brother is running a pair in his TSX with lightly deadened doors, and they are doing quite well playing from 80hz to 2.5khz. No lack in midbass, but the midrange can be better. It might be that I prefer brighter vocals. Overall, great drivers for the money. However, we will be replacing them for vifa pl18s.

ID OEM mids that hessdawg is selling might be worth a look.

I've also heard of quite a few people who have been really happy with the Polk SR6500 set... my local Polk dealer sells just the mids (SR6501) for $109 each... a little over your $200, but not much.

I replaced my Vifa PLs with the Mach5 mids

The PLs dont do well over 2khz....they are great midbass drivers (power hungry though).

Im thinking of x'ing over the Mach5 mids at 3khz, we'll see in the future

3khz would be a pretty good xover point, just keep the slope above 12db/oct then you should be good.
