Loudness

Quick dumb question:

I just got my 980bt HU in yesterday and I've been screwing with it. My old HU was the 580mp. I always left Loudness on "high."

This HU just has an on/off setting for Loudness.

My question is what does Loudness actually do? I mean, everything I read says that it adjusts the sound for low volume playing. It does sound better with Loudness on, but I was getting a lot of distortion so I cut it off. It sounds a better on, but I can get the volume up higher without distortion if it's off.

Is Loudness only intended for low volume playing?

Still messing with the settings on this thing, so I'm sure I'll get it where I like it soon. Just curious what people had to say about this function.

Loudness is like bass boost, but it works for treble too. Its like turning the eq to +6 on bass and +6 on treble...if I remember correctly.

Yeah, that's what I decided after riding around today. This is the first HU I've had with a 16-band EQ and after I had a chance to tweak it some (along with the HPF's and LPF) my little system was sounding f'ing killer today. Not too loud, but loud enough. Loudness isn't necessary, at least not when it's somewhat cranked.

on the DEH-6800MP you can change it to:

OFF

Mid

HIGH

so maybe you can make it Mid? for a happy medium.

I used to be able to do that on my 580mp, but the 980bt just seems to have an on/off switch.
