I haven't ever used an hd3, but those new ones with the cheap chinese 12 spoke baskets don't look like very well built subs to me.

Yeah, I was just talking about the new ones. And I know the basket isn't going to change things much, but i I know for a fact that they use a cheap chinese basket. I just assume that the rest of the parts are equally as cheap. Maybe it's a bad assumption to make, but that is how I look at it.
If you go with an hd3, an older version would be the way to go imo.

Do some searching and see how many companies use those baskets.FYI.. alot.
If theres no budget,get a DD 9512 with composite cone(theres just no way around it loud as sh1t and wonderful sq),or just a 9500,or for a crazy bangs for the buck the AQ HDC3.
Also check out Kicker solo x,some loud lil f*ckers.I think I maybe buying a 10" solox soon.

ya I'm not a huge kicker fan, I know they make an excellent product but I think that there are better products for the same price or a bit more. As someone said before.... you get what you pay for. The DD9512 and AQ HDC3 are compareable except the DD has better SQ, is that what I have gathered from this? How much does a DD9512 go for?
I am not disagreeing, but what companies that you consider to make solid products, use a chinese buildhouse and that 12 spoke basket?

Pick up a used DD from someone. That would be by far the best option I have seen thus far.

archie ya know man, I would LOVE to compete on a pro level but I'm sorry to say that competitions are very limited in New England, especially CT. I compete when shows come around though. I hit 145.8 in the kick panel for USACi and then did a 140 on the dash last season at a small show. My goal is to hit over 150 dbs with 1 15 like snoop did but thats on my eclipse project. My girlfriend has requested I put something in my jeep and I'm not gonna go with something small because I am a firm believer in go hard or go home. So it will be another challenge.

yeah thats how it is around here in michigan.. we get maybe 2 or 3 shows a year. in may me and a friend put our systems together and drove 2 hours away to compete. we got first in our class with 4 12" arsenals and a RF X7 in our sql boxes. even with 28Hz tuning we hit 145 at the dash at 36 or 37Hz....
