Loud off of 150watts??? Is it the car?

Speaking of old school, anybody that was around before power was affordable knows you don't have to have mega-watts to make a system that will rattle your teeth and piss off the neighbors....if that's your goal.

I had a very loud DD system many years ago, for its day (early 90's). Two RF Punch 12's in a ported box (tuned high) with 400 RF watts on them total, in an suv facing backwards. Did it hit 150? No, but it did make your eyes tear up and restricted breathing somewhat. It actually was quite impressive for the size of the system. SQ was pretty lousy though. lol

My dad has a buddy with real long hair (biker). He still likes to talk about how it would blow his hair around just standing outside it listening to it. No, you dont always have to have kilowatts of power to be relatively loud. Just dont start thinking your shit is hitting 150+. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Buddy built me the box for that setup, dont remember the exact specs now.

x2. A guy came into the shop I work at, and bought 2 12" cvrs. I asked what amp he was runnin so we could give him subs with the right impedance, d2 or d4. He didnt know the model # but he said pyramid *oh noes* and said he could bring it in if I wanted, so I told him bring it on in.

He comes back a minute later with this dinky looking amp with "1000w" on the center, with the pyramid logo. Im trying my hardest not to laugh, mind you, and I go on pyramid's website to see what impedance it runs at. So we set him up and before he leaves, he has a chat with my boss. While they talk, I look at the amp's fuse to see what kinda current it draws, and can estimate its power.

To my astonishment (even considering it was pyramid) it has a whopping 15A fuse. I was stunned. I busted out laughing and they looked at me funny. I told them I thought of something funny.

Its best to leave tards to themselves.
WoW! Was he satistifed with the sound.

You can be loud with little power. It takes a very efficient box. but it is entirely possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was asking a serious question......thanks for the answer. Yeah the box is efficient, but I was just wondering do Accord trunks, interiors make a difference also???

By the way, I have no idea what the guy had........It was loud thats all I know.....because he walked over to my car. I didnt go over to his.

*shrugs*

There are many true statements in here. Also, of course, sound is relative, and most people haven't heard 150db's, or even 140's. I have two 10w0's in my plymouth laser with around 150 going to each, and it is pretty loud (relative to normal listening, not people with 12 15's in there car). It is nearly as loud as my RLP with nearly 1000w, but part of that is the laser vs. an intrepid with tons of sound dampening between the trunk and the cabin.

Thats what I figured. I was thinking the trunk had something to do with increased SPL.

Yes the interior of the car plays a very large roll in loudness.

Just because someone can hear you bumping from 500 feet away means doesnt mean it is louder than a guys car you can only hear 250 feet away //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i read like the first 5 posts

all i have to say is my friend has like 125 rms.. and he thinks its loud.. cause hes never heard one louder by much

... idk ..

fresh virgin ears lol

first system

My system now is louder off of 300rms now than one of my old setups that had more drivers and 900rms. My current setup also sounds much cleaner and gets much lower.

Power is not the end all be all of getting loud in a daily setup.

LMMFAO......Im over 35, Ive been around since Car audio started really. Ive heard 160db plus systems in person....so that is NOT the issue.

Just because yall are 15 doesnt mean noone older has heard SPL and SQ systems before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Thanks for the MATURE comment.......I was just wondering if the CAR makes a difference in SPL.........everyone says my car is loud and when I tell them I only have 150watts to my sub, they never believe me.....no big deal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Yes, the car can play a huge roll. I went from a 240sx hatch to an integra hatch and the integra is much louder than the 240sx. When I switched cars, all the equipment stayed the same.
