loosing your hearing?

I was under the impression that bass is not nearly as damaging to your ears as mids and highs. When I listen to loud music, bass doesn't hurt my ears at all, but if there is a lot of trebble its painfull. Any truth to that, or is bass just as damaging w/o being as painfull?

I would have to say that i am an SPL fan but after cracking an eardrum, i think that all might change. I have ringing in my ears but it nothing that keeps me awake. I just turn on my little clock/radio a little and go to sleep and it goes away all together.

Look at this graph:

Your ears are far less sensitive to frequencies below 100Hz than those above. It's still damaging but I don't know to what extent. I wish I had the proper literature at the moment to answer your question but I don't. Whatever the case, any ringing in your ears should tell you to turn the volume down. Hearing loss is almost always gradual and preventable.
