Looking For A New Sub And Amp On A Budget

Right now I just have crappy Duals from Best Buy in a box I built and am in need of an upgrade. I want it be loud and really want to be able to feel it, but it's going to be in my daily car so it's more to enjoy my music more than anything else, so SQ is important as well. Pretty much everything needs to be upgraded (HU, subs, amp, component, etc.), but right now I'm just looking at buying a new sub and amp. I was thinking a single 12" would be good enough for me and allow me to spend less on the subs, amp and electrical upgrades.

Do you guys think it's possible to meet my criteria under $400? Some of the subs I was looking at includes the Fi Q and SSA ICON, but the more I look the more I realize how many products are really out there so it's hard to choose. What I'm pretty much looking for is a perfect blend of price/performance, but keep in mind the $400 value is not kept in stone.

Oh, and it's going to be going in a '00 Sunfire.

Right now I'm thinking about the 12" SSA ICON and Sundown Audio SAE-1000D. I was planning on going cheaper than that, but I keep on coming back to them since I've heard good things about the amp and the sub gets loud but sounds good doing it as well, which is what I'm looking for.

Just to put things a bit more into perspective for myself, how would that combo sound compared to 2 10" Alpine Type X's? I only ask because that's what a friend of mine has and the answer may give me a better idea of what I'm looking for.

i've never heard the ssa so i couldn't say but the IDQs v2 that's on clearance in woofersetc.com is a good loud clear sub
