lookin for good components

Jim J will that combo sound GREAT or fine? where can i find those speakers? where can i find an active crossover? please thank you
With the right install, great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those Vifa tweets are proven in the DIY crowd, and the Seas CA18RNX's are easily blended to most tweeters, they're nowhere near as picky as other midbasses can be on the top end. And they're midbass machines given the right install conditions.

I would look for something like a Coustic XM-7 (if I remembered the model # correctly), or something similar. Do searches for "two-way active crossover" and start reading what people have had good luck with.

Or upgrade your head unit to something that's active capable, if you want to. I'm not too familiar with current head units, but most higher end Eclipse, Alpine and Pio's can do it.

Spend as much as you want on components, but with a shitty install and crossover it will still sound bad. You can build a great component set for under $200 with drivers and passive crossover components from PartsExpress. You can spend $500 on RF or Polk and still get bad sound. It's all in the crossover design. Active crossovers allow you to push the drivers further because of steeper cutoffs. Active EQ is also a necessity if you want decent sound in a car. But passive designs have many advantages over most actives unless you have a multi band parametric EQ and crossover with adjustable rolloff slope. With carfefully designed passive crossovers you can account for phase differences, rolloff slopes, attenuation/equalization, impedance peaks, etc. It allows you to tailor the output and crossover to the component selection and the in vehicle response. It won't matter if you use Dayton, Morel, Vifa, Peerless, or Focal of whatever if you don't do a proper install with properly designed enclosures for the mid-woofers, proper speaker placement, and well designed crossovers. The brand is not as important as the install.
