VINYL!!!

Been wanting to give it a try for a long time. Well I finally stopped and picked some up today. I have done little to no research on how to apply, what type works best, adhesive type, etc. Basically, Im jumping in hoping I can use the same strategy as if I were carpeting it.

Well, for the first try, it didnt turn out too bad IMO. But it's definitely going to take some practice to get it looking perfect. Ill do a little searching now to see what other kind of info I can dig up. But Ideally, I'd like to keep to the same technique if at all possible.

If anyone knows some good tutorials, please let me know.... Comments? Criticism? Suggestions?

And yes, Im aware the sticker is backwards. LOL. I had them all mirrored so they go on the back of the plexi, but wanted to see what it looked like on the vinyl. I think it looked pretty sweet.

rounded corners are your friend...heat it up to get a little more stretch...I have personally had better luck using contact adhesive applied using an air spray gun. Extra panels to hide seams are your friend. Vinyl is less forgiving then carpet so you are not going to be able to get away with a seam in plain sight so you are most likely not going to be able to keep your same method but subtle changes for things are good thats how you learn new cool shit you can do

Im definitely open to trying new methods. I think with a little tweaking, I can get my same method to work, for the most part. I think the vinyl I used, may have been too thin, and stretched a little more than I wanted. I might give it a second try with some thicker vinyl this weekend. I just thought of something I can do, that will help me out I think.

If you dont mind, what method do you use?

certainly looks good for a first time, but I see what dre was sayin about the same method as carpet not really working, the seems are relatively easy to see, least compared to carpet. Does also look like a thicker vinyl might work though, maybe something with a slightly padded backing.

Also rounded edges definitely suit vinyl much better.

You should throw that box away though, its got a backwards sticker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif Or you pay the shipping and I might be able to find a use for it. Just kidding of course, looks pretty good, and with some tweaking I bet you'll get it down pat.

What Im going to do to get rid of the seam on the front, is add a piece to make it look like the other side. This will allow the only seams to be 4 ~1" diagonal ones on each side, and the seam across the bottom, which was nearly perfect on the first try.

I think with rounded edges, it will be very tough to do the sides, where the edges overhang the actual side pieces by 1/4". So I want to avoid that, if possible. Ill pick up some padding, and give that a try to give a little better look.

What do you guys think about this?

I feel like BJ is an attention ***** who does all these really nice setups so he can "fish" for compliments to make himself feel better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

when doing vinyl my enclosures are built with all flat sides

then i round all my edges aside from the sides and wrap around the center portion of the enclosure. There will still be a seam on the bottom but not visible at all....i then stretch a bout 1" worth of vinyl over on the two side panels after which i cut two more 3/4" pieces rounded on one side only and vinyled and attach those to the sides using t nuts

Sounds interesting. Do you by chance have any pics of a finished box?
