So this sub starts rattling and I put the old one back in my truck and forget about it. Cleaning out the garage, find the sub, decide to get it fixed if possible.... I can't find any answers, so I start looking at it closely. Nothing happens so I turn the sub upside down and right to left and this piece of copper wire falls out.

It's around 1 1/2" long and is bent a 90 degree angle.

What is it? Is the sub broke or is this a non-essential part. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Maybe whoever built it accidentally dropped it in there, right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

Nice and heavy.

Advise me, CA genius's. Should I just hook it all up and go or does the sub need fixing?

Looks like you got yourself a piece of the voice coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Read the resistance of the coils with a DMM. Make sure its not 0 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

what you might have is the connection from voice coil to tinsel. usually under the dustcap and USUALLY coated in CA glue.

prolly not "part of the voice coil"

but it could have been dropped into the motor when they clipped the extra connection.

Thanks for all the info guys! I don't have a meter on/with me. Which is weird because there used to be so many around my work and stuff. Anyone know where to buy a cheap reliable meter? Frys had some decent flukes on sale, but ran out when I went down there last month.

I think req is on to something. 90 degree angle. Copper. Could come unglued. Looks like I could fix it myself, but would need to take off the cap, solder it back, glue it down, and then glue the cap back on. I'm hoping it's some random piece of wire, but I would think Ascendant wouldn't make any mistakes like that. Is this something that would come undone due the manufacturer or because I pushed it too hard?

I haven't heard back from Ascendant yet. I'll try get a hold of a meter and email them a pic later. Req, what kind of sub is that?

That DVD is a crappy promo I got from BB. It rang up free and had a ticket for the movie so I have a few. Used as a size reference in the full pic, but yeah it would be nice to have a copy of the movie right now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
