Subsonic tuning frequencies aren't completely useless, they help a lot if you have tons of displacement and need to make up for a loss of room gain...the principle behind an EBS alignment, give or take.

The reason why you don't see them in vehicles is because a) the volume needed is prohibitively huge and b) you get a boost in the bottom octave anyway because of cabin gain.
