i knew there was something fishy when the they were telling me distortion was bad!

 
yep

a speaker needs power to move it right well did you know that a speaker needs power to pulol it back into place and into itself

and also an amp distorting is also known as giving the speaker dc current which holds it in a position or makes it move very slowly in and out (bad) as a rule even if you over power a driver it will still move cleanly but if it is pushed into clipping or distortion it will blow but more clean power = more volume, to a certain point
