so i thought the drivers just used whatever truch they were given that day, does this mean then like own their truck? subs are a pretty major modification to a company vehicle like that..whats the deal.
When you become a driver do they just like give you a truck and tell you your responsible for it or something?
it's complicated. i haven't even grasped the whole concept yet. it's something to do with contractors and temp drivers.
but for instance, one of my drivers is a contractor, and he owns his truck, as in he paid the 35k or however much the one he has costs, and bought the truck flatout, so it's his. he could quit fedex and use it to ship illegals across the u.s. if he wanted to, it's his truck. the way they get paid is by package(or envelope, whathave you). so they get paid for each package they deliver. so for the most part, he tries to get as much shit as he can fit on there as possible in order to make the most money. some routes have more stops than others, which means more money. another thing is they get deductions from their pay if they miss a pick up.
temp drivers are just there 'temporarily'(given the name) and usually rent trucks, either from businesses, or other contractors who have more than one truck. but also get paid per package/pick ups/ etc etc. but with temps, the managers/bosses can change what routes they take whenever they please. as where the contractors have a 'contract' as to what routes they take, and can not be changed w/o their permission. of course, if something bulk comes down, like a 100 count, they are able to flex it to a 'temp' who has no say in wether they want to take it or not.
but so far, that's what i've gotten from working there at fedex. don't know if it's completely accurate but yea
but for the most part, the ones w/ the systems are the contractors who own their own truck, and like imentioned can do whatever they please to/with them
