Nice, I am right there with you. I can't help but think that if I had a proper SPL oriented box I would meter much higher. I dont know if I would have beat the guy that beat me, but it got me motivated at least! Im trying to get a pretty accurate meter of my own so I don't have to rely on other people to get on the meter and test. I feel like if I want to get anything good I am going to have to test a lot, and the only people with a meter around here own Eastern Audio and they aren't trying to have random people in there metering every other day lol. I was actually reading your burp box thread. there is a lot to read tho haha.

Yeah man... It's almost a novel... LOL!... one of those SSA meters is looking pretty good about now... $400 really is NOT that much in the grand scheme of life... thankfully there are meets locally twice a week here in Phx... and almost always there is a meter available... sometimes though it CAN be a little humbling... the Wednesday meets are held under a concrete parking garage and when certain people show up... They can have your car literally quaking violently from 100 feet away... LOL!.. it seems like 140+ in YOUR car...

I say at least you are surrounded by some people who know what's up! Here the only people that have a clue are the ones that own a shop and compete at the highest class. Every loud local car was designed by them, and then there is me and a few other ghetto buddies but we are all in the same boat.

Speaking of affordable meters. Last I checked the Term Lab Rebel was on sale for 400

A lot of forums seem to have this issue. I think a lot of it comes from a bunch of people spreading a lot of second hand Information. I'm all about chill so I'm happy to hear this place is a little more relaxed. Another forum I used to frequent will lock a thread if mention of any other product or any comparisons are made, calling it a VS. thread. I swear, if you said "should I go with a 3" coil or a 2.5" they will be shutting that **** down!

Man I'm happy I don't care about loud anymore. That SPL bug is a money pit.

The SQ side is no different but it's mostly money in cosmetics and treatments. That doesn't stop you from listening to it.

Having done both, they are both money pits... but spl is getting bad. Especially the clamped classes. If you arent running neo, you are **** outta luck. Most of the ground pounder classes really require lithium now.

And then in the rated classes, you need a 3k thats really a 6k (cough, crossfire).

I have a very basic build. 2 ferrite 12s in suv on an old beat to **** 3k. I looked at the world finals cars in that class...all crx's, pretty much all running neo, on a huge amp offering headroom, and a **** ton of caps.... no wonder im 4db behind.

I think my next step is tearing the car apart to deaden and foam as much as I can. Soundskins probably. It's hard to make the car disappear if you hear the c pillar covers rattling.

Yeah I don't necessarily want to travel and compete everywhere trying to make it to finals and stuff. I just want a respectable loud set up that I can bang daily but that can compete a bit too when I want to.

Those guys you mentioned earlier are some of the competitors in my class nationally. I do 150.5 sealed on 2 12s in stock 2k. Those NM guys are loud. Easterns actual own build for 2k is more like 154

Yeah I've seen it in the crx. Is it a clamped class?

What's up guys, I'm Kam311. I'm new to this forum but very familiar with some others. I joined this forum from a recommendation by csstang_customs, idk what he goes buy on here but it's always been similar. Anyways I've been looking for a nice forum lately because some of the others I used to frequent are all but dead. I'll spend a lot of time in whatever section is discussing subs and enclosures, but I'll check out pretty much everything.
