liquid nails a must?

I completed my 1/2 sealed enclosure for my 12" sub last week.

I used 3/4 MDF board and some nice 1 1/4 powerdrive screws. All predrilled holes, countersunk for the most part. I probably place a screw every 3-4 inches or so.

I used silicone. I did not use liquid nails. Is that a must?

I prefer just good ol' wood glue, the cheap stuff. Its never failed me and its not as much of a mess as liquid nails. I would definitely have glued it, remember when building enclosures the screws aren't what hold it together. The screws just keep the wood tight until the glue dries, a properly built enclosure could have the screws completely taken out after it dried. I would suggest making a different enclosure and gluing it.

then what are the screws for?
If you read post #3, maybe you shoudlnt have skipped post #2...

Not sure what I was smoking when I said 1/2 sealed enclosure.

Anyways, if It will help the resonance of the box, I will pull out all the wood screws and take it apart then use liquid nails. I used so many screws and silicone that it makes me wonder if the liquid nails would change the sound any. Its already air tight.

Use tightbond wood glue for all your joints and then use the screws to hold the box together until the glue dries. All the screws are for is to hold the wood until the glue dries.

my setup is one 12" sub (Arc Kar 12S4 for now) will be using a Arc 12D4 hopefully by this weekend sometimes.

I had to return my AA Arsenal 12 due to mechanical malfunction. Don't know if I'm getting it back. If'n I do, it may be up for sale in the near future.

Highs + mids = CDT CL61 and Clarion 5x7 on a RF 501x.

Sub amp = Memphis MC1000D.

Just a regular cab F150. Nice sq setup.

So remove the screws when the glue dries???

I guess I've been out of box building for a while. I thought the screws were to remain.

The glue bonds the pieces together to form a single piece of wood. The screws are just there to hold the boards together while that bond is being created. If from no one else, take it from me as I've made many glueless enclosures which were all complete balls.

if you didnt glue it together with wood glue.

make a new box. if you can take it apart and put glue on the seams and then put it back together thats fine too.

silicone is just for making sure the box is 100% sealed.
