i dont think that explorer is worth 7k

and imo, you cant go wrong with limited model.. it is fully loaded.. with V8

IMO you will regret getting XLT trim and V6, you will want something better in long run

my dad got my mom 02 explorer xlt V6 and then when I got mine, my dad drove it and he admitted that he wishes that he got the limited model..

just my 2 cents but if this is the one u really want, go for it i guess. I would prefer LS for 7k over this XLT explorer thats just IMO

I agree with the post above. You will not like the V6. Especially after you weigh the thing down with rims and audio.
i agree with you guys as well. im going trying to work with the dealer on the limited explorer. im not really in a hurry. so i got time on my side, so when they decline my offer i will wait a month and go back:) and ya my moms new moutaineer is the V6 and its not bad but a little more power would be nice when trying to merge into freeway

A friend of mine has a 2006 LS, and I drive it on a regular basis. So much so that I feel comfortable with voicing my opinions of the vehicle.

Pros:

Good looking exterior (especially if it's black)

Comfortable interior

Inexpensive

Handles pretty well.

Cons:

The V8 has very little low-end power (in fact, it's downright weak).

Interior is somewhat cheap (plastic pieces fall apart or break for no apparent reason).

Limited aftermarket accessories (but window tint and wheels are all you'll really need).

I'd recommend the LS to anyone interested in a good looking vehicle that's relatively inexpensive.

if u want a v8 lincoln just go with a mark viii they have cobra engines and can be found extremely cheap
I second this. Mark VIIIs are very nice, very comfortable and fun cars to drive.

That is still a decent deal. No longer a steal, but definitely a deal (given everything works).
And it still has under 100k miles.

That is an 04 V8 Sport Trim. And I must add, the silver LS's with tinted windows look sexy as hell. It has a 6 disc changer in it and dual climate control.

And to the guy that mentioned it, yes it is definitely a cool 'luxury' car. The V8s can throw you in your seat and you are comfortable whilst doing it. I love mine.

One thing to note, if you plan on carrying people in the backseat often, take note that the leg room back there sucks - it is designed so the feet of rear passengers sit under the front seats. Thats how cramped it is. I hardly have rear passengers so its cool with me lol, I just tell ppl to deal with it!

If you are close and actually want it, I would go take it for a drive and check it out. I bet you can talk him down, and I will tell you some stuff about what to look for to make the guy aware that you know the car well - I bet you could get him down a bit.
I'm going to agree with most of this. My dad has an '03 V8 that he bought used a year ago with ~38,000 miles on it. He got this for $13,000, which I would say is cheap. His is a tan color, with the tan leather interior. Very sexy car. It is fast and has a lot of power, as you get into the mid-range RPMs; handles great, and also rides very smooth like a luxury car should. It's a sporty luxury sedan. Very little back seat room. Stock speakers sound awesome. Not as much in the bass department, but the highs just sing beautifully. With the bass turned up, the trunk does rattle and the rear baffle board where the 6x9's are mounted rattles also, just from those 6x9's. So I'd advise deadening for a system. However, the battery is located in the trunk, which would be perfect for installing audio.

Now, my dad's is at probably about ~60,000 miles now, and issues are starting to pop up like crazy. The six disc CD changer won't eject CDs. The transmission sensor likes to slip out of gear, and won't engage the gear until the car is given gas; this happens at stoplights, not just when you're changing gears. The air apparently doesn't work either.

He constantly *****es and complains about this car, so when I get back in town I'm going to give it a once over to see what the issue is. My dad takes good care of all of his vehicles, so this isn't negligence on his part. But then again, instead of actually taking care of the problem, he'd rather just ***** and complain about "How much of a piece of shit this car is." Stubbornass. I absolutely love this car and every second of driving it, but he is going to get rid of it soon.

You said it perfectly, explorers got plenty of power at midrange rpm, i sure have no problem getting out of the lane when I want to or even when i need to.. plenty of torque

but not sure about things gone shitty.. my explorer got perfect history report, only went to dealers to get the brakes replaced, and an oil change once before i got it into my ownership, and then since I have it, only went there once- abs light came on after I removed the calipers and i got a warranty so i just pay 100 bucks deductible for almost everything.. found out that my sensor was missing, must have fell off or whatever during the removal (user's error) so they installed the new sensor and found my left bearing is going bad so they replaced it as well.. thats all and i hope it keeps this way.. unfortunately ur dad isnt experiencing the same thing... however my explorer just passed 53,000 miles last week so..
