Hi when i turn on my sound system that i recently installed i hear a Light gargle sound comming from my speakers. Its not loud its real low but you can still hear it before the music turns on, when the music is on you cant really hear it at all, unless you put your ears to the speakers. If you want to know how it sounds exactly then put less than half a shot glass of water in your mouth and gargle with it using the word "prrrrrrrrrrr".

It is not the ground, I checked the ground 50 million times. Im thinking its the imput cables that connect from my car deck to my amp, because ive been using the generic kind and not the monster cables.

or maybe its my speaker wire? I have some 16 gauge speaker wires hooked up with some another speaker wire which looks thinner......the thinner wires wernt wernt long enouff so i hooked some 16 gauge wires to them, can that be the problem?

i have 4 speakers, each set of 2 speakers peaks 350 watts rms...so I need 14 gauge speaker wires only right? If this is the problem im going to go down to radio shack and buy 100 ft, 14 gauge speaker wires and rewire my whole sound system using only the 14 gauge. 14 gauge is thicker than 16 gauge correct?

s/n is signal to noise. the higher this ratio the better. there will always be some noise in your system which is your noise floor, whether its audible or not depends on a number of factors. when the signal (audio content) is considerably larger than the noise this noise hides within the music. if your gains are set too high not only do you amplify the music you also amplify whatever noise is present.

setting gains is synonymous with level matching. its how much the signal from the hu gets amplified by the amp. setting gains involves using test tones (from a cd or frequency generator) and turning the hu volume up to its max ouput level without distortion. next adjusting anyother preamp components to their maxium output level without distortion and then adjusting the amp to its maximum output level without distortion.

you said that the noise is barely audible and you cant hear it at listening distance. i wouldn't worry about it.
