let's see that mug...

the hell if it dont... screwing takes a lot longer than nailing. trust me... you use a nail gun you'll never screw again. remember time is money. the faster you knock out that box, the faster you can get to the next job.
Uh.....With the amount of time I sit on here and post, I can afford the extra 1/2 hour to use screws instead of nails. I probably only build 2 boxes a year or so. So the extra hour is fine and dandy with me. I enjoy it. I'm usually sitting around drinking beers and having a good time building when I do anyways.

And I really don't want to get into the debate.....But screws hold better than nails, and I don't care what you people who use brad nails say. Screwed boxes hold up better.

well... i used to work in the industry back in the day. we nailed every box... never seen one box bust apart. never heard of a nailed box failing. to me... guys that nail their boxes are professionals or take their car audio pretty serious. seems to me their more dedicated financially to buying good tools to the job well. a man that invest well in his hobby and/or career shows dedication.

I have something to contribute to this thread....

I invest in what I need to do the job well. I use a router to get all of my joints nice and to flushmount my subs in using a jasper jig.

Why would I invest in something that does a sub par job when I have the extra time available to me?

Just because you have never seen a nailed box blow apart doesn't mean that a nailed joint is a better joint. A screwed joint will take more to break apart.

Fact of the matter is, my boxes don't look bad because I take the time to do it right, and I end up with a joint that will hold up better.

screws split mdf and... they strip out. you show me a nailed box that's failed. your just talking out the side of your neck. maybe all that punk pink ink you got walled to your arm is effecting your judgment

Screws don't split mdf if you pre-drill with the correct bit.

Screws don't strip if you use the torque limit dial on your drill (it's there for a reason).

I don't have a split or a strip in any of the 250+ screw holes in my current box.

Just because you can't do it right doesn't mean it's wrong.

OMG.....you built boxes.....So you worked at an install shop and I'm assuming got paid jack shit. WIN! And you look like a highschool drop out.

Me.....I'm a mechanical engineer. So don't come at me with structural arguments.

screws > nails

/argument

Besides, it's been shown before that whatever you use to hold the joints together, is to simply hold the wood while the glue dries. The glue is what truly bonds the wood, not the screws/nails.

all you guys fail.. no one commented on the girl's *** on the right corner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
