lcd tv's from walmart............

they do have a few good ones there...i would not hesitate to buy say the samsung brand, they also have panasonic's here which i feel is a decent brand. My best advice to you is to go to a higher end retail store and spend a hour or two learning about all the different types and then make an educated decision. I'm just not that technically experienced with them to really enlighten you myself.

HDMI = CAN carry digital 5.1 signal (think digital coax, or fiber optic).

DVI = same as HDMI minus audio signal, though most people reccomend against sending the signal this way as it is generally degraded.

If you are going to invest in a decent monitor, 1080i is the best way to go. 1080p is nice but the differences aren't that big.

Contrast ratio isn't as important as they'd like you to think, judge what looks best to you..... play with the color settings if they'll let you.

the 2 stores by me have 2 Plasma tv's for sale(last years models by ILO), 1 for $500, and the other for $760. ***not a typo***
Just an FYI, MANY plasmas on the market will not do a true HD picture (720p-1080i). Plasma has a wider range of colors typically but is subject to burn-in. LCD really is the way to go if you can afford it.

are those ilo's decent? they have a 26" for $748 and a 32" $867

what about akai? i know they're tubes are all right, but would anyone recommend their LCD's?

thanks j. the 1 u recommend is the same one as as the soyo from walmart, specs wise. i was lookin at walmart tv's cause i wanted to put something on layaway.
