Lawn Mower/Weed Eater

Summer...? Summer's the best time to start a lawn mowing company. But save all the profits. You'll need them for the Winter.
That's when you expend your services to leaf and snow removal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Yeah, basically, we have been trying to ocme up with a solution for the winter months...

I have a background in remodel, so the goal is to hopefully tap into that some,

also, hanging christmas lights, leaf removal, trash removal, gutter cleaning and well, im in texas so not much snow...Also, pricing our lawncare and paying our salary in a way that we can save for times without work...

So, it looks like I have gotten some good brands suggested, does anyone know the best way to aquire them at a good price? I have thought about craigslist but I would rather buy new or find a place that has factory refurbished models or floor models on sale...that's ideal. Have to remember, this is the start, so we want something relatively inexpensive, yet reliable.

I would love to just go out and buy some Echo or Stihl equipment...

Also, what do you guys think is the best way to do initial marketing, our thoughts were roughly 1500+ fliers and some good ol' door to door canvasing.

Get everything from the pawn shop. It'll last you a while. When you make some money, replace things as they break. Try to keep your costs down. Canvassing is probably the bast way to advertise until you get some good accounts.

Stihl and Husqvarna are the best, but its not needed for most just starting. We bought a troy bilt for 100 bucks today. Stay away from Pawn shops, I have worked at a few and what you spend 50 bucks on can be had new for 20 bucks more with warranty. Decent trimmer and blower, and a nice mower is all you need to start. Small engine shops always have good used Toros, Hondas and Lawn Boys. Once you get 20 lawns a week or more than you can find a used Scag or other commercial walk behind.

if you want to make money in lawn care! dethatching is the way to go. me and a buddy of mine made 200 buck a day with little labor!

all you need is the dethather machine and a lawn or leave vacuum machine!
Dethatching and plugging is basically for the Spring only, Its not something that can stand alone for the summer or a lawn business. Its good to add that and fertilizing in the spring with the rest of your services., as well as leaf removal and winterizing in the fall.

well early spring you can do that, after that.... wow.

If your going to start a bussiness lawn care is not the way to go at all. Obvouisly ull be cheaper than ur comp. But will u do a better job than the guys who've been mowing these lawns for 10 years? Its ridiculous, ive watched guys mow the same lawns around my house for the last 17 years. Every week all summer baby. ****in amazing.
