Last book you read

Ehh Paradise Lost is a horrible read. I don't recommend it.
Last book I read:

User Interface Design for Programmers by Joel Spolsky
why would you say that it is a horrible read may I ask? I have to say, the use of prose in it is beautiful, I can't see why it would be a horrible read, maybe a difficult one....
I've already read about 1/4 of it and I really appreciate it. I'm very anti-traditional religion, and I love anti-heroes (ie Satan), so I really like it. But then again, I really enjoyed Beowulf all three times I read it. All a matter of taste.

As for the prose, there is only a little bit of it at the beginning of each Book. However the fact that Milton uses Free Verse really impresses me (I can't stand poetry that rhymes constantly and I feel that strict meter takes away from the flow of a poem).

Paradise Lost just wasn't for me.. If you enjoy the way its written, then by all means keep reading it.

To me the writing style felt unorganized. I found myself having to read certain passages over to make sure I understood what was going on. This actually ruined the flow of the poem for me, and it became somewhat of a chore to get through.

Milton's Satan was pretty cool though.

I read A++ Certification for Dummies, turns out I didn't need to read it, I knew everything already in there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

last fictional book i read has to be "1984"

Yeah, it's definitely an acquired taste. But I grew up reading old stuff like that because of the whole Accelerated Reader program in elementary and middle school. I was 11/12 years old reading Dracula, The Three Musketeers, and stuff like that (those were written I think around 150 years after Milton, but you get the drift). Hell, I even ended up reading Siddhartha (a Hesse book about Buddhism) because it was all the school library had left that fit my reading level. Just too **** smart I guess.

But all that "advanced" reading as a kid really helped me to appreciate a lot of the stuff I'm reading now. I still hate almost everything from the Romantic Period to about mid-way through the Victorian Period, especially Keats. But that's just me.

I find it hard to believe that you have not read a fictional since 1984.

You do realize that Thoreau (sp?) could walk to town from his "cabin in the woods" for a hot meal whenever he wanted. Might be a good author, but his "voluntary exile" is grossly over-romanticized.
Was unaware of that. I was all about the voluntary exile though.
