Do we know for sure it was hacked? Didn't appear that the database was taken over in that manner.

Most of the time, hackers go all out and destroy all the data or only make minor changes which allow them to use the machine for their own purpose (sending out mass email, using the server as a drone in a large scale attack on very large websites, ebay, etc.)

If you want to try UNIX/Linux again, check out Ubuntu. It's extremely easy. On install it configured more of my hardware automatically than Windows did.

First of all you need to grasp console. Whether in win or nix if you want to understand hacking in any form. The GUI by default will only show you the virtual world it was designed to show you. Having basic understanding of console and programming is the only way to understand it. The front end will show you nothing.

is it kind of like, for example: in a game, u can access the console menu, and type in different commands to make the game easier; such as changing mouse sensitivity, and FOV, etc?

and is it kind of like altering your config folder for the game? so that you can alter how things appear? is that kind of like accessing the console?

and how does one access the console? im not trying to hack or anything, but i feel lost in how it happens.

first off... yep, ubuntu is the coolest for ease of use. Installed on 3 diff laptops and everything worked perfect, automatically detects and sets up SO much stuff on its own, plus the gui just looks reallly nice.

secondly, if someone was to use the server to attack ebay....well, anyone who attacks ebay is a good person lol.
