So since my iPod took a dump a year or two ago I have been playing CDs in my 80PRS head unit and everything has been great. Now when I hook my new to me iPhone 5s up to the usb input to play music, it isnt nearly as loud overall and the bass is very little almost none, regardless of what eq setting I choose on the iPhone (or off) or the volume level setting on the phone before or after plugging the USB in.

Am I missing something here or do I need to put some test tones on my iPhone and reset the gains using the iPhone thru USB input instead a CD?

It just annoys the hell out of me that its like half the loudness and less than 20% bass vs playing a CD.

SO no one uses the Pioneer DEH-80PRS and/or has noticed reduced output using the USB with iPhone? I know a lot of people run these head units...

I havent used an 80PRS for a while. But I would make sure that the Sound Retriever is set to 2. And go ahead and push the SLA up to 4. See if that makes a difference. If you have already done these things, then I am not sure. I have heard that the SLA has to be set to its highest level to get the full 5 volts from the preouts.

Don't quote me on this, but see if it makes a difference.
