labor charges?

I put a starter on a 76 caprice for a guy that plays basketball here at the college. it took me about 2 hours, what is a good labor rate to charge him?

I was thinking of asking for like $40

what do you all think i should ask

i'm no mechanic, just the drive-way fix it yourself kind of guy, so i wasn't planning on charging him a ton, but I don't do shit for free either. He's a friend of a friend, and thats how i got referred to him

up to you, charge him more he might never come back, if $40 is fair to you, its a good deal and maybe he will come back or even refer you again

most shops are atleast like $65 an hour, so 40 is pretty cheap

40 is fair remember its book time it took you 2hours but is only a 30 minute job max. so 40 is totally fair. I am in the same boat right now going by book time but fixing stuff in the driveway. 3 hour jobs take 8 if its undercar. Good god I need a lift

eh on this car probably more like an hour long job with a lift, a frame support had to come off plus there is an extra starter support at the rear that is a ***** to get to with a wrench. Pulling the car up on ramps and not having it on a lift makes it much more difficult

a lift or a pit would be awesome

ok so 40 minutes but I know no lift right now is killing me. just did full set of brakes and all lines on a buck and a normal 4 hours was 8+ at least I still get the parts delivered. in the morning I got a Subaru forester with bad wheel bearings to do. OOOOO i want a lift!! I wonder if i could have it put outside? my neighbors would hate to look at it.

A shop would be around 100.00 so I say 30 percent less or so.

they have lifts that are portableish. they lift from the side of the car. or you can use a siccsor lift they are like $800-1500. lifts arent that badly priced.

Tell him you need about tree fitty.

I'd charge him a little less than half of what the local shop would charge.

most lifts like that just get in the way If i getz me one it will be a two post asymmetrical one 4 pads hold the car up everything in the clear. the drive on is ok for storage and oil changes but still gets in the way.
