L7s arent hitting hard

the tantrum is rated at:Amplifier Type: Mono

RMS Power: 1200W x 1 @ 4 Ohms

THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: n/a

RMS Power: 1400W x 1 @ 2 Ohms

Speaker Level Inputs: No

Preamp Outputs: Yes

Built-In Crossovers: LP

Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB

Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz

Signal to Noise Ratio: >95 dB

Fuse Rating: 80 amps
Those specs are just wrong... the Tantrum has a regulated power supply so it does full power at 2-4 ohms... which means 1400+ watts at 2, 3, or 4 ohms... i don't know why there are so many wrong specs out there on the web. I have the Tantrum's birthsheet sitting right in front of me... "1458 watts @ 4 ohms @ 14.4V"

the songs that aren't hitting that hard----are they from burnt cd's or commercial ones? on my deck depending on the quality of the recording i get some of the same symptoms. i generally stick to commercial recordings now. other than that an external eq could help a ton since your using a stock headunit. Does your h/u have any type of rca outs on it? if so i would definately consider an eq/preamp setup.

it makes no since. How can you have a constant power source?

only voltage and current can be in a steady state.

p=ei right

which means if you change any variable the output will change.

If you have 4 ohms and you add another 4 ohms you get 8 ohms right, with 12v you would have what 3A and 1.5A.

do the math man, it makes no since.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Even the JBL 1200.1 said you have 1200watts at 2ohms, and if you drop it to 1 ohms it would still put out 1200 but in reality it puts out more .
Strictly regulated power supplies man... learn it

I'd say the "problem" lies in the box myself. You have the power and the displacement, but that box doesnt seem to be utilizing their potential. Whether that be from cancellation from the placement of it, or maybe you just dont like the characteristics of ported boxes, have you used them in the past?

Matt,

The wires from the speakers to the LOC are wired correctly. Has anyone messed with the LOC? There are signal boost knobs on it that can boost the signal to your amp. Try and turn the gain on the amp down then turn the LOC up and reset your gain. As far as wiring. If you have time this wekend you could comeover and I will check your Impedence for you. We can rewire it if you like. Let me know. Hit me up on AIM tonight if you still dont have my number.

You might have them out of phase... Check that.... Because I know L7s are loud, I Turned mine up for the very first time (I mean louder than I usually do) and I thought my decklid was gonna come loose lol man anyway i have mine in a big box tuned to 29-33 IIRC with only 400watts going to them (maybe less)... So yea, you might have them out of phase? I dont know

Having a regulated power supply has nothing to do with it putting out the same power at 2-4ohms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
