L7 Question

Sorry for posting this in two places but it wasn't getting any responses in the enclosure section.

I have 2 15L7 D4s and I will be putting them in a sealed box.

Kicker lists the enclosure volume for the 15 as follows:

Min 1.5 cuft.

Max 6 cuft.

My box will give them 4.4 cuft. per sub.

What sound/performance difference will there be with 4.4 compared to 1.5 and 6? I can't seem to find an explanation anywhere. Will they be louder with 4.4 instead of 1.5? Will they hit lower, etc?

I used a QTC calculator and came up with these numbers for my Kickers:

Qts = .507

Vas = 5.2 (ft3)

Fs Hertz = 26.3

Vb (ft3) = 4.4

Qtc = .7489

Fc = 38.85 Hertz

F3 = 36.8 Hertz

And this is what I came up with for my current PG rsd12d subs and box:

Qts = .55

Vas = 3.39 (ft3)

Fs Hertz = 22.4

Vb (ft3) = 1.9

Qtc = .9177

Fc = 37.38 Hertz

F3 - 30.66 Hertz

I'm not sure what the difference is but I do know that my PGs sound very clean with great SQ and they hit the low notes with good authority. However, they don't get very loud so that is why I bought the mammoth 15L7s. Since I've been told that a Qtc of roughly .707 reproduces notes as they were recorded, does that mean that the L7 will sound more natural/clean in this 4.4 ft3 enclosure (Qtc .7489) than the rsd12d does in the 1.9 ft3 enclosure (Qtc .9177)?

I wouldn't think about running an L7 15 in 1.5cuft sealed. I've ran an L7 15 in a 4.5cuft sealed box and it sounded good on most all songs. Your pg's may still sound better.

I've been running one L7 15 in a 4cuft net box ported to 38hz. It is quite loud on rap songs. It doesn't sound good on rock songs. Country songs sound ok. I also ran a 4cuft net box ported to 32hz. It wasn't anywhere near as loud as the 38hz box. The 32hz box picked up the lows better and IMO sounded alright. Tomorrow I'm building the box for 2 of them. I'm gonna run 2 4cuft net boxes ported to 38hz. This setup should be very loud.

How many watts are you running??

Cleaner, tighter bass instead of boomy. I had a ported box for 2 12 L7s I used to have and it was too boomy for me. Distorted more too. I'm not really looking for SQ, I'm looking for clean, distortion free SPL. I'm thinking that 2 15s in a large sealed box will be what I'm looking for. Besides, I built the box myself and building a sealed box was hard enough LOL.

if building it is a problem that one thing but ported does not = boomy if done right. louder yes but a well done ported box can sound just as good as a sealed box

The only problem with that is "well done". This is the first box I've ever built and I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart. I used 3/4" MDF, liquid nails heavy duty construction glue, caulk around the inside seams, and screws all over the **** thing. Hopefully it will be okay.

understude.

PS: **** bro your building a box not a tank lol.
