ok...i know i have been asking alot of questions...but when i first joined i wanted just SPL but i heard a nice SQL system and i am thinking about changing my system around...

now i have a 12" L7 4 ohm in a shitty pre fab (1.77 after port and sub tuned to 43hz) i hate the way it sounds now..when i wanted a system i wanted it to sound good but loud...well my friend sold me his L7 and amp for cheap so i just wanted it loud....

i lisen to more hard rock/punk than anything and now that i have a loud system for rap i am getting tired of rap...i lisen to 90% rock...

anyways i dont have money for new sub/amp so how can i get my L7 12" to have good sq but keep some output....i have 700 RMS going to it

also i have the crossfire RS mids, (6.5 and 4x6's) will amping these help me much....

thanks for any help...

Didn't you already make a thread about this? Anyway, 4th order would be a good idea, and I'd make sure on the cubes sealed to ported with 80inches. He is the bandpass guru around here. Not that your opinion isn't respected, vetkilr //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

cool...this is going in a s-10 extended cab...can i have a 4th order in this truck...and will it be good with rock...and some rap..10% rap 90 % rock

and thanks...i had not though about a banpass

For SQL...

Sell the L7 and get a different sub. The L7 can sound decent, but it's biased toward pure SPL. Given equal setups, it'll never sound as good as a true SQL sub. I'm ditching my 2 12L7s for a 15" Mag.

It's definitely an SPL sub. Put it up against any decent true SQL sub and watch it get owned. The L7 will definitely get loud, but given an equal setup, it absolutely will NOT have the SQ. They don't sound like @$$ like many claim, but they're definitely an SPL sub.

in my experience, the L7 can have good transient response in the right enclosure, but it's high end extension sounds VERY unnatural.

When kicker uses the L7 for SQ tourneys, they probably have it x'ed REALLY low.

I thought my 15's started sounding 'papery' above 50hz, even.

The lows are nice, tho. And like i said, an L7 CAN keep up with rapid music, it's just that weird sounding high end that keeps it in the pure SPL category.

what would be a good sub to get for sql...i dont have much and would have to sell my L7 first..

also, my mids are Crossfire Rs...i have 6.5" and 4x6's. im about to amp them but first i want to know if they are any good for sql setups....they are like the MB quarts, stiched "woofer" cone, fiberglass or something like that with a titanium tweeders, there 2-way....do i need better mids or will these work....

and again thanks for any help

I think most people are quick to defend the L7 (and Type R) because so many people bash them. I've ran the L7s. I'm running a pair of 12L7s right now. They do not sound like total @$$ like many claim. However, if not properly setup, they will sound like total @$$. My point is that the L7 IS an SPL sub. It can be made to work in a SQL setup, but you have to work hard. You'll have to really play with the amp settings and like heyman said, you'll have to cross it over lower than you normally would. You'll also have to really play with the enclosure to find what it really likes. This is going to put more on your front stage. You're going to have to rely on your front stage to pick up some of the lower frequencies of the midbass that you could have a true SQL sub handle. With the extra attention and $$$ you'll have to spend on the front stage to make the L7 work in a SQL setup, you would probably be better off to just go with an SQL sub to begin with. That doesn't mean the front stage isn't important, but the L7 will put even more pressure on the front stage. Like I said, the L7 CAN work in an SQL setup, but it takes a very careful approach. IMO, you'd be better off going with another sub. If you want to create a great sounding setup and raise people's eyebrows when they see you're running an L7 - go for it!
