Konaki motor VS 9500 motor (David Team PSI)

Anybody know the differences between the konaki motor and the 9500 motor?

I know the konaki is not USA made so dont just say that lol.

Im looking for things like weight, flux, gap height, gap width, top and bottom plate thickness, slug thickness, slug diameter, anything else i forgot.

The difference is in the Pole OD and Top Plate ID.

The Konaki has a larger gap, therefore it has a lower gauss number in the gap. That's not such a bad thing though, as it can accept an 8 layer flatwound coil. It's sort of a trade-off. You get a coil that will handle more power, but takes more power to get the same end result.

The Konaki has pretty much the same cooling slots as the 9500 motor.

If I had a choice between the two, I'd take the Konaki.

The DD motor isnt made in the USA either BTW. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just ordered 2 of these motors...

and in 2 weeks ill have the 18" PSI 8layer re-coke kits to go with them !!!

awesome informative post

dave any idea how the hdc3 motor compares with the 2?

Just to add my 2 cents, I know a street A competitor who gained over a dB going from HDC3's (konakis) to 9510's.

But to the average consumer, the konaki is a fine motor as long as you upgrade the softparts.

Thanks a lot! Finally i definitive answer. all the guys on e were just like its a cheapo china nock-off.

I guess i shouldn't have gotten 9500 recone parts since the coil is not thick enough?

I thought the dd9500 did have an 8 layer flatwind but i must have been mistaken.

how much would a recone cost to make my 12 into an 18 lol? I have one bnib and want to put an 18 in the trunk of the car I just got on 2000w
If your referring to a dd recone then idk call dd.

but why would you want to recone a brand new sub tho, that involves destroying the soft parts unless you have a removable top assembly. you would be better off selling it buying a motor and then getting soft parts.

u can fit a 8 layer in the DD but it uses a small wire/gauge to be able to fit... The sundown and RE MT 8 layer coils fit in the gap of a 9500g motor.

so what you would need a d4 or somthing then? Isint the lower ohm usually a heavier gauge coil?

The DD motor is way stronger than the konaki motor. With Gauss numbers are oftenn 1000-2000 higher than others. With a higher motor strength, the subwoofer can be both louder and have a better response. Many subwoofer companies underestimate motor strength as being one of the dominant factor for a low transient response aka accuracy.

Think of it like this: they took a DD motor to copy and to have made cheaper and we get a konaki motor. Mass production price over quality and it's a better route for most companies with higher margins. There is a difference especially proven with SPL and even SQ competitions. However, for the vast majority...many will not care for the difference.

Most of the gain was probably from the soft parts difference I'd say.
