Konaki 12's/ DD 9512G look alikes

I am no expert, but I have/had both the 15" and the 12", I do not have my 12" anymore (thanks to USPS) but my buddy is sending me a brand new one which is due to be delivered today.

Anyway, I have a Kicker Kx 2500.1 which is supposed to do 2500 watts give or take at 2 ohms.

The Konaki's are only rated at 1400 watts rms according to the manual I got with my subs, well, I wired the 12 and the 15 to 2 ohms for 2500 watts rms.

The 12 got loud as hell, I was able to get a very faint glue sent once with it, but never could stink up the coils.

As for the 15, it takes the power better than the 12" version and, believe it or not, it sounds better doing it then the 12" did (not saying the konaki's sound good at all, but I liked the 15 better than I did the 12) .

I was able to pop the spiders off the landing on the 15" , a friend suggested I use some 2 part epoxy to reglue it, I followed is instructions and now the spiders are securely glued (for now) .

As far as I am concerned , those Konaki's can take a bit of power but will likely break at the spiders/landing and need to be reglued.

Jacob/Sundown , did a really nice thread/review on them and has a bunch of the Konaki's, he has probably got much more expierence with them then I do as he has reconed a few already.

I bought mine with the sole intention to cut them apart and recone them, as some may know, I cut one of my 12" Konaki's up and sent the motor out to Fi for a recone but it never made it.

I still have the 12" soft parts, I found that Jacob was correct about Konaki using SUPER stiff spiders, and I also noticed that the coil they use is pretty beefy, I wonder though, if all the Konaki coils are so dark or did I actually darken the coil myself.

In comparison to other coils I have seen which are a light copper color, the Konaki is almost burgandy. I am thinking I may have been abusing it and gave the coils a "Paint job".

Although... I was intentionally abusing them as I planned to recone them anyway. In closing, I do not think the Konaki is a bad sub as is, but, they will break if pushed hard, so at a minimum you would need to reglue the landing!

Better info can be had if you read Jacobs thread on the Konaki, just enter konaki in the search engine here and it will pop up.

I hope I was able to help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
