meniscus is cartalige if im not mistaken if u do need surgery its a quick one and ull be back on ur feet in a few weeks by back on ur feet i mean playin ball and what not i play ice hockey and i had my surgery on the day after thanksgiveing a friday and i as skateing by the week of xmas

The most common symptoms of a meniscus tear are:
Knee pain
Swelling of the knee
Tenderness when pressing on the meniscus
Popping or clicking within the knee
Limited motion of the knee joint
The only symptom I don't have is the popping or clicking.

Well I am back from the doctor. He said I probably have a slight tear in the ACL. So he gave me 2 options, get a cortizone shot or get an MRI. He told me he chose the MRI because he doesn't like needles, but also said after an MRI the cortizone shot is still an option. So I opted to take the shot and have fluid removed from my knee. He said it was good that the fluid was yellow, and I got stabbed twice by a 4" needle because he didn't like the first needle, maybe not long enough I guess. So anyhow, the second needle didn't hurt as bad and he ended up pulling out 17 ml of yellow fluid. He said if it was red that would have been a bad sign.

We are waiting 2 weeks then I go back to see him. But I chose to get the shot because it could be done right in his office and if it doesn't work, that leaves two options, surgery or live with it.
torn my acl and mcl 10 yrs ago, did nothing but brace n ice it... i cant do any s[ort that requires moving my knee in any side motion.. it actually hurts to run now... get it looked at... mri
i made a "juke move" when i was a catcher when i was younger (13 or so) and it locked my knee. Broke my femur, dropped into my knee, took the cartiledge, and I had to have a full rebuild. Hope you don't have to go through that, as to this day I can't do shit that involves heavy physical activity or walking for more than a few hours.

After doing both boxing and MMA since i was ~14 i can say that surgery is the most fool proof option.... but so can anybody. I can also tell you that Flying is the quickest way to get from point A-B. That wont prove much either.... besides the obvious. Honestly it all depends on where you're going with your career.
I mean no offense but i HIGHLY doubt you are headed for the pro's. Or have any intentions of it. So why devote time, patience, money, and energy to it if it has no effect or toll on you, your future, career, or health?! I have plenty of hobby's, i love fighting, i love boxing, i love all of it. But i'm just not seeing any reason to spend or risk my body's future inhibitions on it.
i'm going through the same thing right now. recently displaced my knee cap, and when i stand upright, gravity pulls it over the meniscus cartilage. when i walk, it grinds and wears on it something serious. i didn't experience any pain on the back of my knee until about a week ago. doesn't mean anything's getting worse- it's just being neglected. i haven't been wearing my brace as i should, and i regret it now. only get an MRI if nothing else helps. MRI's are supposed to be a last resort.
