The biggest problem I see when people make recommendations on here is they recommend something out of the person's price range that they are comfortable with. Most people know that they can't expect a lot out of a cheap system and understand this fact. People either suggest something too high of a price or push their stuff off on someone that doesn't know much about it. There are plenty of budget brands available that are decent for their price. Plus there's the option of getting an older model of something or finding a decent used setup. On the note of kicker - I found the next older model kicker 12 cvr that was still brand new and was able to get it for like $50. It sounds pretty good to me. I know there are better that cost more but I didn't wanna put more into it. Kicker is decent but not the best. However, do not pay retail for it as there are better brands for less money.

You can get it for under $500 if you are price savvy. I have the kicker 4 guage power kit new for 50, new kicker cvr 12 for 50, new hifonics hfi 1000.1d amp for 125, and a custom made ported box I built that I got around 60 in it. That comes to $285. Just don't be stupid and jump on a product without researching first.

I don't have wiring but I do have an old empty box that belonged to my buddy's 12" kickers...

youre probably gonna want to do a custom box unless that box is to specs of the subs you choose

man, if you hit the classifieds, you could find a pair of 12s or w/e and 1k watts and wiring for 500 easy. it would be wayyyy better equipment than what you've been looking at too. I'm sure some people here might surf the classifieds and post up some links for you too. I'll take a stab at it real quick.

for wiring, get a 4g kit from knuconceptz. cheap and great kits.

here is an AQ amp. solid for the money too. this, with say 50 bucks in wiring and 50 to build a box will leave you a solid 250 for a pair of subs.

Where did you find such deals?

kicker sub and wiring kit off ebay. I got the amp off vminnovations.com with a 2 year warranty. However, I have no warranty on my sub. You can get a new older model for around $83 I think if you look around online. The newest model of the cvr 12 is like $175, which is way more than what it is worth.

Man thank you all. This has been the most informative and helpful forum I've posted on thus far. I'm going to stick around and see what I can learn.

If anyone else has recommendations for systems under $500 dollars feel free to post them here. As far as bass goes, I'm looking for SQL. I just learned that term so don't flame me if I used it incorrectly.

That is correct usage of the word. It just means you're looking for clean and loud. The SA subs that I linked would be a good candidate.
