So, I have done multiple searches but haven't found what I'm looking for. Before I go further, if there is a thread I missed answering my question I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

I have one Kicker S12L7 4ohm and am in need of a box. I would like a ported box for SPL. This is not for competitions, its for everyday driving. According to the manual, I belive I should have a box of 3.25 cu ft and a slot port of 3" X 13.25" opening X 14.5" length. I will be using 3/4" MDF.

I tried to sketch out and calculate/design my own box to no avail. I got a box with an internal space of 3.6669 ft sq, but I wont post my box dimensions because I am just too confused with all the calculations.

The trunk space I have to work with is large: 36"(wide) x 35" (depth) x 16" (height).

Also, I am confuzed about "tuning" a box. How do you determine what a box is tuned to and what would be a good reccomendation for my box? From what I have read, I am guessing 35 hz? Thank you for your help.

you could always use the calc. on this website

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp. its pretty decent. it will give a cutsheet and all. i have 3.25 cubes at 35 and i like it. for that calc just incase you don't know your xmaxx is 14.1 and your sub displacement is .08 (assuming you have the 06 and up model) and for a box that big i would suggest some type of bracing. if you have any questons on bracing just search the forums theres tons of stuff on that. actually theres alot of stuff on the l7 to.

you don't have to make the box 3.25cuft. for it to get loud. matter of fact, I'd say stick to around 2 cu.ft. tuned to 33Hz. the subwoofertools.com calculator is great, I use it for almost all my slot port boxes. So you have size and tuning, now go to that site with the xmax (found in the manual) and you're all set to use their program. It'll tell you every panel

^ are you doing S1 this coming season???anyways, sub displacement isn't 0.8cu.ft. I don't think its 0.08 either, more like 0.12cu.ft.
Yes. I decided that I didn't feel like putting up with the gay AS1 rules and would rather do S1. I don't have the time to constantly switch stuff out (like batteries) to do AS1. Are you doing Meca?

so... i built my box today. i will post pics when I can upload them (56k).

external dimensions: width-36 Height-16.25 depth-16.5

internal dimensions: width-34.5 Height-14.75 depth-15

i had home depot make one long cut in the MDF, but I realized that I made them do the wrong length cut, so I just followed my same plans and instead of shaving 1.5" off the smooth bench saw home depot cut I made the box a little bigger. i believe it is:

Cu Ft: 4.0 (Excluding port)

Hz: 32

I used this to figure out the tuning. Port: 2.75 X 14.75 and length 18.75

I used the entire box volume (4.4 cu ft) for the calculator, is this correct?
