Kicker L5 wattage

Well first of all i wanna say that im new in this forum but im not new to car forums nor new to working on vehicles. with that being said, i have a single Kicker L5 in a ported box tuned to 38hz with a memphis 500.1 pushing it. the sub is a dual 2 ohm and i have it wired to 1ohm. after hooking up my oscilloscope to my amp to see where it starts to distort it seems that i can do way more that what my sub is rated at if i go by the volts and ohms to find a round about wattage. i currently have it putting out around 24 or so volts which should be close to the rms wattage that the sub is rated at. but the amp doesnt start to distort till around 40 volts. my question is would it be fine if i push a little more power to it or will it mess up the sub?

thanks in advance for any help you might have.

It will be fine. Music is dynamic. Your amp normally only puts out half its power or less
so i should be find tuning it up until about 3 or 4 volts before it distorts? i did the test with a 50hz tone that i downloaded from i believe it was sonic audio's website. i do have a program on my laptop now that i can do any frequency.
