hey, i have a Kicker ZX1000.1

it does 1000@2ohms X1 / 500@4ohms X1

well i bought 2 12" JL audio W6's and they take 400@4ohms each.

i was told that i could power them fully if i went the 2ohm root, well i go it all professionaly installed and after it was installed the guy told me that its not fully powered, because the subs only run at 4ohms, and he said i would have to buy another amp just like my other for them to be fully powered (1 amp to 1 sub).

Is this guy pullin my leg to get me to buy another amp (i didnt buy it from him nor will i buy it from him (i buy from sonicelectronix.com))???? the place is a kicker and JL distributor so i think they know there stuff

the way they installed it was 1 wire going from the amp to one sub and one wire comin out of that sub and hookin to the next sub (just the basic setup) (and just the regualr jumpers on the sub)

btw W6's are only made on dual 4 ohm setups,

also is there a way i can bridge them down to 2 ohms to give them full power

Ive heard of but not seen some of the 2ohm stable kicker amps run stable at 1ohm. if you can wire these W6s to 1ohm you would be fine. would void warranty on amp though.

you would need a 1-ohm stable amp. the kicker amp you have now is capable of it but its a risk...mainly if its your daily driver vehicle. I would sell the kicker and pick up a solid 1-ohm stable amp

okay ill probabaly get a 1 ohm stabel amp. would the sound quality go down any? or would it be the same, would i need heavier gauge wire for that type of amp?

does anyone know how to wire a W6 to 1ohm?

Wire them per the instruction manual, it shows you how. I'd look at a Sundown SAE-1000D. You can simply set the jumpers on the subs to 2ohm and then wire each sub to a terminal on the amp. The terminals are internally paralleled and that will present the amp with a 1 ohm load and once the gains are properly set give each sub 500W, not that they need nearly that much to get plenty loud and sound good. Honestly you're not going to gain much of anything going from the Kicker that you have running at 4 ohms to another amp running 1000w into 1 ohm.
