Kenwood X998 VS Pioneer DEH-p8400bh

I currently have the kenwood, but i have a friend who also used to have the HU, but he said he couldnt stand its distortion and how little power it puts out (hes also running 2 amps, nothing off the HU itself) so he upgraded to the pioneer and says he loves it, i personally cant tell a differece and im wondering if there really is a true difference here, or is he just trying to say "mines better". I never would think that the HU would change the entire system, but i could be wrong
