Kenwood X993 and Zune questions...

never used the aux on mine but i bet that is the case. could be a bad cord or bad connection to the hu (not plugged in).

Should my travels ever take me near "home", I would gladly.

Thinking about the 3-4 hours I spent fiddling with the HU the Zune and different players and patchcords does not make me feel to sharp. I did not want to believe the tech could make such an error. I also was intimidated about taking the dash apart which was silly easy.

 
yep, a lot of 'professionals' have no business installing equipment. you could have easily installed everything you paid for now that you have taken the dash apart. don't worry, you will be upgrading at some point and you can do it yourself, save money and do a better job.
