Kenwood x790/890 question.

Does either HU have an adjustment for the sub volume? I tried downloading the owners manuals for both, but darn it if Kenwood doesn't have some of the worst product literature I've ever seen.

Yes both do, among many other tweeking adjustments. Those head units have fabulous sound quality. Of course I am a Excelon fan, but you should be happy with either one.

IIRC theyre the same exact head unit, but the 890 has the addition of a usb plugin

Both have a level adjustment on the subwoofer preamp RCA outputs as well as the ability to defeat them altogether at a moment's notice (I refer to it as the "There's a cop behind me at the light" function)

Though I will agree that Kenwood's owner's/installation manuals are more than a bit vague on several points here of late the operation you were looking for is clearly described in the manual for each unit. My confusion came from how that section is laid out in the owners manuals. Both manuals are for two models of HUs, and on the pages following the ones you mentioned, it listes the eq features for x790/890 respectively. So I wasn't sure if the part which covered the sub level was intended for the x790/890 or only the other HUs covered in the manuals. (If that makes sense.)

Okay - for the X790 I was mistaken. That info is on Page 11 in the owner's/installation manual under the heading "Audio Control" found in the right-hand column.

For the X890 it is on Page 13 under the same heading.

I understand that the manuals are dual-model manuals. They cover operation for both the eXcelon units as well as the corresponding 'regular' Kenwood counterparts.

kenwood manuals just don't elaborate on what the advanced functions actually DO, but it covers how to actually access/control them as well as all other features pretty clearly
