Kenwood vs. hifonics

which is the better amp. I heard hifonics is good and bad but don't know much about kenwood amps.

Kenwood is CEA rated. Hifonics isn't.

The only question is reliability, and each brand will have it's share of horror stories.

From what I can remember, Kenwood doesn't offer amps with line level controls (bass knob), whereas Hifonics does. That makes a lot of people prefer Hifonics.

I was never impressed with kenwood stuff.hifonics was great back in the day......

I guess it all depends if your looking for a clean mids/highs amp or a killer mono sub amp.

well, i just bought a 500 rms kenwood amp for my 2 type r's. I just want to know if it will power them well enough. Cuz if you look at my avatar you will see a crappy 300 rms legacy amp which makes my alpines sound pretty underpowered.

It means they test there amps to a set of industry standards. Basically meaning it will do at least the power they say.

As where there are a lot of companies that claime 1000-5000 watt amplifiers when really then only do ~500.

I like my Kenwood 2 channel amp. I've heard that Hifonics are pretty good budget amps too.

500rms for TWO Type R's? I don't think that extra 200rms will make that much of a difference with output on the R's.

HIfoncis makes a low end line, which is still pretty good. A middle line, and high end line. I think they make good products.

Kenwood has made good stuff and crap too, especially their old stuff was a lot fo junk. They seem to be getting a better reputation lately.

i ran a kac-9102d for over a year and never had any problems... didnt go into protect once even listening full tilt for like 30 min

nothing wrong with either brand if you realize you are not going to get 2000++++ watts for 200 bucks and under new. i don't mean that to insult anyone it is just the reality also if the amplifiers are within 200 or so watts of each other from 500-1200 watts there wouldn't be that big if any difference by ear...generally takes a doubling in power to get a significant enough difference in output to make it worth while..you cant hear half of DBs and full DBs are barely audable to the human ear. In general terms it takes THREE DB to say "yup thats got more power"
