What's up all,
I have an ongoing issue with my Kenwood 12" Subwoofer, model KFC-3013PS as shown in the attachments. Let me describe my setup so I can try to get some input here.
I have a Subaru with an HK stock system + stock HU. I installed 1 12" Kenwood SVC subwoofer (max 400 RMS) in a ported bassworx box with an Alpine MRP450 mono amp (225 RMS at 4ohm), I used copper wiring. Over a span of 2 years, I blew 3 of these subs, individually. Same result - burned coil. NOTE: I purchased all of these subs of Kijiji or classified ads (unsure if this plays into it). I also play my music through Spotify, no EQ, music quality to normal or high and volume on my phone at 95%, HU usually from 15-25 of 40 based on if I want to pound it or not.
I then figured it could be my amp clipping signals/underpowering so I purchased the Alpine MRP500 (300 RMS at 4ohm). Same result after 1-2 weeks: 1 more subwoofer down. Right now I am running my back up subwoofer, 1x dB Drive K12D2 400 RMS DVC and it's been holding up well for about a month.
So here I am, 4 subwoofers burnt and I have one left. Is this sub/amp not a match? Is the Spotify volume to loud? Please HELP protect the last one as this subwoofer is discontinued.
Thanks,
Ken
