Thanks for the replys....
What you guys rather have a Hifonic or a Kenwood?
I cannot speak about late-model 'regular' Kenwood amps (such as the KAC-8152D you mentioned) as it has been a few years since I ran a non-e
Xcelon unit myself.
Having said that, though, I can say the last standard Kenwood amps that I ran or owned benched to output at or slightly above rated specs (KAC-622, KAC-923, KAC-646x, KAC-606, KAC-846, etc etc etc) according to my personal tests.
I read thread after thread after thread about HiFonics units being over-rated and not actually outputting rated wattage.
That's not to say that HiFonics isn't a good buy - dollar per actual wattage ratio shows them to remain an economical choice for power on a budget.
If you're wanting a Kenwood amp, specifically, look around
eBay for a Class D monoblock like the one I run, an e
Xcelon (Kenwood's top-end gear) KAC-X401M. At 14.4vdc input it is factory-rated for 300w @ 4 Ohms and 600w @ 2 Ohms. The one I have benched at 672w into a 2 Ohm load given 14.4v. Not a huge increase over rated output (not enough so it would be noticeable to your ears) but all of what it is rated to do plus some makes it a worthy buy to me. I got mine off of
eBay for $125/shipped. With a bit of careful shopping it shouldn't be too hard to replicate my buy.
