Kenwood KDC-W6534U display problem

Greetings!

I have little (?) problem with my Kenwood KDC-W6534U. I've bought it about two weeks ago. When I've connected it to my car (Audi A4) the radio played nicely, but the display was off. I could use the CD, USB and radio - all the buttons worked, but there was nothing on the display. After several tries, out of the blue, the display came on. For two weeks everything was ok, but now again without any apparent reason, the display is off. Still - all the buttons and functions work, even the illumination of the buttons works. I have checked the cables - everything looks ok. I suspected the "dimmer" cable might cause problems, so although it seemed to work fine (0V with lights off, 13,8V with lights on), I've disconnected it from the harness - no change. Of course I've tried to reset the device couple of times (it has a "reset" button on the front panel) - no result.

Does any of you guys have any idea what could be the problem? I really don't want to send the unit back to the store and wait for a new one... I'm rather new to this - so maybe there is something obvious and simple that I'm missing?
