im trying to see if theres enough of a difference to switch out and buy this one?? any inputs?

There's a couple key differences between the two, which is one of the reason's they don't sell one like mine anymore. First, the X40 is what's considered a "digital" amp which the 8405 is not. The X40 is very very efficient and has a max THD of .5% where as most other amps will say "min THD". this means as you turn it up, distortion is going up too, which is a no no at high volumes. Plus the added power would make it easier to power components and easier on your electrical.

I have mine on a set of Boston Acoustics speakers rated at 60 watts and I don't have the amp set up very high, so it gives me plenty of leadway powering my speakers.
