R.I.P. Gossamer!!
I was perusing eBay (as I often do) and happened across this auction listing because of the low opening bid and the fact that the listing is due to close soon with no current bidders.

I was figuring if I could get the little amp for around $20 or so shipped that I could easily turn it locally for a bit more and make a buck or three.

So - upon opening the page actually containing the listing I notice the seller has placed a reserve price on the item. Normally not any cause for alarm as it is a frequently used mechanism for sellers trying to hedge their bets and not get lowballed to death.

Well, or so I thought until I meandered down towards the bottom of the listing and noticed the single question posed by a potential bidder with the published response to it.

Have a look at this listing and scroll down to see what I'm talking about...

As I recall the retail on that unit when new wasn't that much.

Some folks...

$225 for that piece of crap, yeah right. I don't think any novice car audio hopeful would even spend that much money on such little power or piece of crap amp.

It is from a pawn shop, so Im guessing they dont even have a clue what it is worth and they are hoping for some dumbass to purchase it.
I know it's from a pawn shop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I read very well, tyvm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

In my experience the overwhelming majority of pawn shop employees have at least a rudimentary idea on the value of used car audio. Cripes - how much used stereo gear ends up in pawn shops?!?

Seeing as the pawn shop in question here is a multi-location affair I would imagine that they have some experience in the business of pawnbroking and as such would likely have at least one person in their employ who would know that a very average amp such as the one listed wouldn't be worth anywhere near what they've set the reserve price to be.

In retrospect, however, since the reserve IS stated to be $225 perhaps I'm completely off base here...

i live 10 min. away from that pawnshop,i will take a look Tuesday and see if it is still there and see how much they want for it.

I wasnt meaning that you dont know anything about pawn shops. My point was merely that there are some that seriously over estimate the value of some stereo gear. I am also very aware that there are many good deals to be had if you shop around enough.

I also believe if you were to walk into the store it could be had for less than such asking price.
