kenwood ipod set up

i have a kenwood headunit from a few yrs ago, the excelon x817 which does not have a direct ipod connection.

from my research i have found that i could connect it with a cd changer cable to ipod connection

my question is, which is better,

the one that connects into the ipod with a 3.5m headfone jack, or one with a actual ipod connection that also can charge the ipod

each cost abt 15 bucks generic on ebay.

the stores carry similiar items for like 30

my worry abt the ones that have ipod charging capability is over charging the ipod.

so far i hav ebeen using the moster cable fm module connection whihc also charges but doesnt over charge the ipod

I would go with the cable that would charge it also. I don't see it "over charging" the ipod
