kenwood hu protect

i bought this used and it works fine excepot randomly goes into protect mode and i have to reset it but pulling the neg battery cable then it works for a few days or weeks but then protect again i have searched and read it could be the speakers grounding out but i have all my speakers hooked up to an amp so i only have rcas coming out of the hu i installed car audio for about 4 years at bb and cc so i pretty much know what im doing when it comes to basic hu wiring any suggestions
