kenwood h/u able to play a mp3 cd?

the guy at the shop said you could make a mp3 cd or a compressed cd and this deck would play it? however i made a mp3 cd, and a data cd, but when you put it in it just starts playing w/ 1 track and no sound. also can i make the knobs change colors from blue and fade and stuff? not sure on the madel right now, but its the one with the motorized face and 4v pre outs. think first number is a 7?
